Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Cablesheer Group to undertake an archaeological evaluation of land at 22 Bishops Road, Croydon, London Borough of Croydon, in order to fulfil the Local Planning Authority requirements, as part of the planning permission for the development of the Site into residential. During the evaluation three post-medieval pits were located and investigated within the trench. These features are probably associated with the construction/ occupation of the former buildings at the Site. Post-medieval activity, including probable levelling of the Site have resulted in the loss of any surviving topsoil, subsoil or any other buried deposits and likely impacted on the natural geology. As a result it is highly unlikely that any earlier archaeological features survive within the Site. The evaluation, comprising of a single trench, revealed that the site was heavily disturbed by Post-Medieval truncation that will have destroyed features of archaeological significance. |
