Abstract: |
A program of photographic recording of the standing buildings and an archaeological watching brief took place at St. Josephs Convent, in Monks Kirby, prior to and during conversion of the former convent into residential accomodation. Some of the buildings are shown on maps of the mid 19-19th century date, others were purpose built for the convent after it was established in the 1870's. the earliest finds on site probably date from the early 18th century and included a George II silver shilling of 1745 from behind a skirting board. Pottery recovered from the layers below the floor of the cottages dated to the 18th century. |
