Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Archaeology South-East at Sydney Simmons Alms Houses Dene Road, Ashtead, Surrey. The work was undertaken between the 8th and 9th March 2011 on behalf of Sydney Simmons Homes. Two trenches, measuring 20 metres and 30 metres in length by 1.8 metres in width were excavated across the area of proposed development. The underlying natural Thanet Sand, was encountered at a maximum height of 74.41 m OD to the south-east of the area of investigation (Trench 1) falling to 73.23 m OD to the north-west (Trench 2). No finds of archaeological interest were encountered during the course of the evaluation however a concentration of undated and/or natural features was encountered within Trench 2. |
