Abstract: |
In April and May 2018, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation and a small strip, map and sample (SMS) excavation on land at Hollow Lane, Pinhoe, Exeter. These works were undertaken for Gadd Properties Ltd. The site lies in an area of high archaeological potential. Hollow Lane has been postulated to be on the alignment of a Roman Road between Exeter and Honiton. Previous archaeological works immediately to the north of the site recorded medieval field system. The archaeological works recorded a pit and three ditches. The pit was undated, but was cut into the natural substrate and sealed by the subsoil. The irregular shape of this feature suggests that it is a tree throw. All three ditches were cut into the subsoil, and two contained modern artefactual material. |
