Abstract:		 An Archaeological Watching Brief was maintained during the ground-works associated with the construction of a new dwelling on land adjacent to High Banks, School Lane, Pyecombe, West Sussex. Ground reduction was carried out using an 8 tonne machine with a 1.5m toothless ditching bucket. A single sherd of medieval pottery dating to the 12th to 13th century was recovered from the colluvium, Context 2. The only other pottery comprised two 19th century sherds from the topsoil. A small assemblage of worked flint debitage was also recovered along with a small assemblage of bone, together with a single piece of worked bone, perhaps associated with weaving. A negative lynchet was recorded during the excavation along with two slit trenches dating from WW2. An undated ephemeral linear approximately 3m long cut into the colluvium was also noted.
