Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment excavation was carried out in advance of a new development at Osborne House, 245 The Ridge, Hastings, East Sussex. Twelve 20m by 2m evaluation trenches were excavated by a 13 tonne tracked excavator using a 2m wide toothless ditching bucket. All trenches were excavated down to the underlying Ashdown Beds natural. The only two archaeological features recorded during the evaluation were a late 19th or early 20th century linear feature and a possible circular garden feature, surviving as a single course of unworked and unmortared sandstone blocks. A small assemblage of pottery was recovered from the subsoil, all dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. |
