Abstract: |
Archaeological recording during improvements to the boat park , including construction of a new slipway,at Porthloo on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly. Two test pits were excated in October 2013. Test pit 2 on the coat park just revealed lateers of blown sand >2m deep. Teat pit 2 on the beach revealed >3m of peat deposits. These were sampled in March 2014 and radiocarbon-dated showinmg that the sqequence developed between the end of the Early Bronze Age and the medieval period and confirms te presence of a former shallow lake or lagoon in this part of St Mary's. |
