Abstract: |
MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) was commissioned by Bell Plantation Garden Centre to undertake an archaeological trial trench evaluation at Bell Plantation, Towcester. One trench was excavated of which revealed evidence for the survival of ditches and pits. Also human remains were uncovered, which were not fully excavated and left in situ. The features are divided in two groups. The more eastern group lie on slightly higher, drier ground. The ditches are orientated north to south or north-west to south-east. After a gap the westerly group are downslope in much wetter conditions. Preliminary spot dating of the pottery has given the ditches and pit a tight date span, from the late 1st to the late 2nd century AD. |
