Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during groundworks for an extension at No. 32a The Mint, Rye, East Sussex (NGR 591929 120367). Groundworks revealed a layer of demolition rubble dating from the 15th- to mid 16th-century sealed by garden soil, as well as a heavily damaged post-medieval brick-lined pit. The overburden contained a range of artefacts dating from the medieval and post-medieval periods, including an interesting range of local and imported pottery, Flemish bricks and a group of closely datable clay tobacco pipes. |
