Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by CFA Archaeology Ltd on land North-east of Manor Farm, Fraisthorpe, East Riding of Yorkshire during September 2013. Twenty-eight trenches were excavated; some targeted anomalies identified from the results of a geophysical survey, others were located in areas where it was not possible to conduct the geophysical survey. The evaluation recorded three concentrations of archaeological remains including pits ditches and gullies. Heavily-abraded pottery fragments of Late Iron Age to mid Roman date, as well as burnt cereals and ceramic building materials which may have been used as a pit lining were also recovered. Possible post-medieval field boundaries were also recorded along with the vestigial remains of relict cultivation furrows and extensive post-medieval and modern field drainage. |
