Abstract: |
CFA undertook an archaeological strip and map survey during the groundworks for a wind turbine. As part of the investigation a routine palaeoenvironmental sampling strategy was employed, this comprised the excavation of a trench to the base of the peat deposits at the turbine base location site and the retrieval of two large kubiena tin samples to characterise and date the peat deposits. Warp deposits were identified across the entire development area, which signifies the practice of flooding the land with river silt to improve its agricultural capacity.
