Abstract:
Oxford Archaeology (OA) has been commissioned by Beard to undertake a 2 trench evaluation of the site of a proposed children’s home development. The work is being undertaken to inform the Planning Authority in advance of submission of a Planning Application. A brief has been set by Richard Oram (OCC Lead Archaeologist), detailing the Local Authority's requirements for work necessary to inform the planning process; this document outlines how OA will implement those requirements. All work will be undertaken in accordance with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Code of Conduct and relevant Standards and Guidance, and local and national planning policies (CIfA 2014 revised 2020).Blue stone Planning Ltd and Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) propose to build a children's home on OCC land in Aston, to the east of Back Lane. The proposal is at preapplication stage and will go to West Oxfordshire District Council as the local planning authority. Various design options are under consideration, all comprising a singlebuilding measuring approximately 30m x 20m across, associated access off Back Lane, parking and landscaping.Pre-application archaeological investigation of the site has been required by the Local Planning Authority, West Oxfordshire District Council. This Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI) has been prepared on behalf of the Client in response to a Design Brief for Field Evaluation issued by the OCC Lead Archaeological Officer (RichardOram). In previous planning documents, including the brief, this site was known as Whitehouse Farm, Back Lane, Aston.
