An archaeological survey of an area about 250 sq km in extent immediately west of Evora in south-central Portugal has been proceeding for four to five weeks each summer in 1986-8, involving up to forty participants from Britain and Portugal. Man-made landscape features of all periods are being recorded and mapped, and detailed surveys made of selected sites and areas. A complementary programme of excavation of representative sites has begun, and an investigation of the geomorphology and soils of the area has also been carried out.
