Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment, comprising a desk-based study and walkover survey, was undertaken on behalf of JDM Woodland Management in relation to a proposed woodland creation scheme on Kippen Muir, Stirlingshire. The assessment was conducted during early October 2018 which showed no significant heritage sites were visible on the ground surface within the proposed development area. Sites recorded in the woodland creation scheme area and 1 km surrounding it, in the most part, related to post-medieval activity including, for example, lime kilns, quarries and farmsteads. The exception was a findspot of Roman artefacts although the exact location of their discovery is not known. A dam and associated loch were present just to the south of the proposed woodland creation scheme which appears to have fed a likely Mill located on the current site of Lintmiln. Although the loch was connected to the mill by a waterway which runs through the proposed woodland creation area no sign of any canalisation was noted. |
