Abstract:
This report describes the results of an archaeological watching brief carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology at Land adjacent to Buntingford Road/A10 and Clements Close, Puckeridge, Hertfordshire on the 9th of April 2019. The monitoring was undertaken on the area of the junction between the new access road for the proposed development and the existing B1368. The groundworks were of an insufficient depth to impact the archaeological horizon, with the deposits uncovered consisting of the heavily disturbed topsoil and an intermittent layer of Made Ground, comprised of concrete slab and gravel crush. This deposit presumably relates to works surrounding the construction of the A10, to the east of the site in the 1970's. Although no archaeological features or deposits were identified, the presence of Modern Made Ground seemingly overlying the subsoil indicates that truncation associated with the construction of the A10 may only be sporadic and localised within the site area.
