Abstract: |
Geophysical survey and trial trench evaluation of southern field of potential development area east of Saxon Drive, Biggleswade. Revealed evidence for medieval field system, most likely associated with medieval Stratton settlement to the west and/or scheduled moat to the south. Very low presence of finds (12th - 14th century pottery) within the ditches suggests animal paddocks or agricultural fields some distance away from the main medieval settlement focus. Other features were medieval furrows, undated pits and ditches and modern water meadow leats. |
