Abstract: |
Using a Trimble Juno survey grade hand held GPS and other devices, the Society carried out a number of walk-over surveys throughout the woods where previously almost nothing was recorded about the archaeology. The survey located charcoal burning platforms, hollow-ways, tracks, quarries, water management features and bioundaries The survey work provided a better understanding of the archaeology of this belt of woodland, much of it having not been recorded before including quite substantial features such as hollow ways which may be prehistoric though that is still to be determined. The survey are included the site of a forge which was also subject to a later more detailed survey |
