Abstract: |
Ten trench archaeological evaluation. Four ditches were identified in three of the trenches. One of the ditches contained two conjoining sherds of abraded Romano-British pottery. Archaeological remains, comprising four ditches, were revealed in the northernmost three trenches. The ditches share a common alignment and are likely to be at least broadly contemporary. None of the ditches correlate with boundaries depicted on the 1844 Tithe Map of Holmer, or later Ordnance Survey maps, which suggest that they predate the mid-19th century. The presence of Romano-British pottery in one of the ditches is likely to be residual. All that can be said with confidence is that the ditches are likely to form part of a coaxial field system of unconfirmed date. |
