Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by the Landowner to undertake an archaeological monitoring and recording during ground disturbance works associated with the construction of an outdoor horse-riding arena.
The excavation of a 60 m by 30 m area in the footprint of the outdoor riding arena was monitored. No archaeological features or deposits were encountered during the course of the archaeological monitoring and recording, although medieval pottery was collected from the topsoil. The pottery may be connected to the nearby linears and enclosures identified in cropmarks and the geophysical survey. It is reasonable that that material could have moved in the ploughsoil and would further support evidence of a medieval fields and settlement. Minimal site records have been scanned as a security copy and are held at Wessex Archaeology as agreed with Wiltshire Museum. All finds have been discarded. |
