Abstract: |
The fieldwork comprised the observation by a competent archaeologist of the groundworks associated with GI borehole drilling at the site. Six boreholes, (150mm wide), two to the west of the theatre (BH1 and BH2) and four to the south east (BH3 to BH6), were drilled by Geospehere. Non-archaeologically significant deposits were removed by the groundworks contractors under archaeological supervision. The upcast spoil was examined visually for the presence of artefactual evidence and also subject to metal-detector survey. No archaeological features/deposits were exposed as a result of the GI borehole drilling. In June 2023, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological monitoring of six ground investigation (GI) monitoring boreholes undertaken by Geosphere. The purpose of the boreholes was to establish the geotechnical and geo-environmental parameters of the site. No archaeological features or finds were revealed nor were any peat deposits encountered during the borehole drilling. |
