Abstract: |
The investigations comprised the monitoring of four machine-excavated trial pits and five evaluation trenches, totalling 400m in length, each 1.6m wide. Both the trial trench monitoring and the evaluation trench programme established that the site contains a moderately shallow soil profile across the majority of the area, except towards the stream within the north-eastern part of the site, where Trench 2 revealed a depth of infilling. Within Trench 4 a 0.10m deposit of alluvium was encountered within the eastern trench limits. The absence of any features or finds in any of the trial pits or evaluation trenches, or their associated spoil, suggests that the proposed wetland treatment ponds will not have any adverse effects on deposits of archaeological interest on site. |
