Abstract:
The evaluation fieldwork comprised the excavation of 24 trenches (Figures 6-11). All trenches were 30m in length and 2m wide. The trenches have been located to test geophysical anomalies and to provide a representative sample of the remainder of the site. Trench 8 was shortened due to services and constraints on site. Trench 11 was moved to target the visible dip in the landscape. Trenches 23 and 24 were also moved due to constraints on site. In July and September of 2021, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land to the North of Poorhole Lane, Broadstairs, Thanet, Kent. A total of 24 trenches were excavated. The archaeological evaluation identified a number of ditches and pits in the north-west and north-east part of the site. The remains may be associated with a prehistoric field system. The recovered environmental assemblage recovered suggests that settlement activity is likely to be located in close proximity to the site.
