Abstract: |
Evaluation by Trial Trenching, which followed a Desk Based Assessment, Geophysical Survey and Auger Survey The Evaluation by Trial Trenching, which followed a Desk Based Assessment, Geophysical Survey and Auger Survey, identified a linear feature in three trenches. The feature has been interpreted as a moat of probable Medieval date, which is recorded by the North Yorkshire Historic Environment Record. Due to ground conditions full excavation of the moat, which measured up to 7m wide and 1.25m deep, was not possible although small assemblage of animal bone, glass and a single sherd of 12th or 13th century pottery was recovered. |
