Introduction

Sutton Archaeological Services (SAS) was set up in 1993 by Jeffrey Perry and Andrew Skelton to provide a professional, independent and cost-effective archaeological service, offering confidential advice to architects, planners and developers in London and the south-east. We worked initially in the London Borough of Sutton, but rapidly expanded into the Greater London area. Work has also been done in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Warwickshire and Wiltshire. SAS undertakes various types of archaeological work under the Department of the Environment's Planning Policy Guidance papers, on archaeological sites (PPG 16) and historic/listed buildings (PPG 15). Jeffrey Perry and Andrew Skelton have more than 60 years of archaeological experience between then, particularly in excavation and the excavation and recording of standing buildings. We can, where necessary, call upon the services of other archaeologists and period specialists across the country, from contacts built up over many years. In recent years we have done a considerable amount of work on environmental archaeology.
