This collection comprises site data (a report, images, spreadsheets, site records and GIS data) from an excavation ahead of construction of the A355 Beaconsfield Eastern Relief Road. Following evaluation by trenching, three areas were excavated by Oxford Archaeology between June and September 2018.
Area A lay at the north-west end of the scheme, Area B was the site of a proposed balancing pond north of the road in the middle, and Area C followed the line of the route in the northern part of the south-eastern field crossed by the route. The excavation of Area A produced no features certainly earlier than the post-medieval period. In contrast, Areas B and C both contained features of late Iron Age or Roman date, together with potentially earlier prehistoric features, and for these a post-excavation assessment was agreed.
