Introduction
Southampton City Council Archaeology Unit carried an archaeological watching brief on groundworks for the erection of a single story extension at 22 Lawn Road, Southampton.
The watching brief recorded natural and modern deposits. The natural appeared to have been truncated, possibly to provide a level platform during the construction of the houses along Lawn Road. Four modern features were observed, all contained finds dating to the 19/20th century. One of the construction trenches coincides with an extension shown on the 1909 OS map. Two modern layers were at the top of the sequence. They were both very thin and contained modern finds.
