Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Project Summary

The Historic Building Recording was proposed for the aim of providing further specific information to inform the strategy for a programme of mitigation works. Building recording within St Mary’s Church aimed to:

  • Recover architectural material that would help inform an analysis of the date and appearance of the church including identification of the principal architectural styles employed.
  • Provide an account of the plan form, fabric and structural development / phasing of the church through a survey of upstanding remains.
  • Provide a floor plan survey of the church identifying in-situ monuments and gravestones.
  • Provide a record of any in-situ gravestones or monuments and to;
  • Undertake an assessment of the church to further an understanding of its date, phasing and significance and to contribute to delivery of GWSI: HERDS.

The object of survey work within the churchyard was to identify, locate, record and recover extant and discarded memorials within the churchyard and to provide a record of the appearance and current extent of the churchyard. The aims of the survey and recording within the area of the churchyard were to:

  • Provide a record of the appearance of the churchyard including its boundary fence.
  • Provide an annotated survey plan of the churchyard showing gravestones, monuments and tombs including the location of any ex situ or discarded elements.
  • Provide a photographic and written record of gravestones and monuments prior to their removal, and to;
  • Undertake an assessment of the churchyard and monuments to further an understanding of significance and to contribute to delivery of GWSI: HERDS.

Re-Use Value Statement

The datasets created in this project were used to prepare future investigation at Stoke Mandeville and St Mary’s Church. The final datasets will be integrated into those that will be produced during the new mitigation works.
