Title: White Cottage Harland Way, Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire: Historic Building Record (Level 2) Filename: WhiteCottageBuildingSurveyA18mar21.pdf (7 MB) Description: This report had been undertaken by MAP Archaeological Practice Ltd under the instruction from Persimmon Homes to record White Cottage, Harland Way, Cottingham; prior to its demolition. The cottage was built in the mid to late 19th century, as first depicted on the 1890 Ordnance Survey map. White Cottage was a rendered, one and a half storey detached dwelling built in arts and crafts style with gabled slate roof. The front (south) elevation has large bay windows either side of the front door. To the rear was a cat-side roof to the single storey out-shut and additional single storey lean-to (single pitch roof) was stepped back on the east side. The interior had original doors, but later fireplaces on the ground floor. Two bedrooms in the gables had no fireplaces. The bedroom was over the out-shut was accessed from the stairs via a cut down door. The ceilings in the reception rooms had been rendered in a textured finish with modern coving. The single storey out-shut and eastern lean-to may be a later addition, but the current floorplan reflects the footprint depicted on the 1890 edition Ordnance Survey map. Fifty-two high resolution digital photographs were taken to record the exterior and interior of the buildings. |
