Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Introduction

This collection comprises of text, images, 3D models, LiDAR, vector and GIS data from a historic building recording commissioned by Fusion and undertaken by Wardell Armstrong at Dews Farm, Harvill Road, Harefield between August 2020 and January 2021.

Project Summary

Land around the building to the north and south was required for construction related activities. The works for construction of the scheme required the demolition of the farm building and would have affected aspects of its setting including demolition of the outbuilding and demolition of the walled garden. A Level 3 historic building recording, following the Historic England Guidance on Building Recording (2016) was undertaken to provide a full and analytical account of the building, its structural development, history and setting. A 3D model of the building was created in the course of this survey. The buildings were of significance as an example of the local vernacular architecture. This significance was enhanced through a historical and functional association with the late medieval Dews Farm. The archaeological value of the building, however, had already been significantly compromised with the significant modernisations undertaken, and only a low number of historic features of significance could be observed.

Re-Use Value Statement

The in-depth analysis of the building in the course of the demolition of the building gave an insight into the construction of the building as well as allowed us to determine that no older, historic fabric had been re-used within the building. The survey and laser scan preserved the structure for future analysis of its structure and design.
