The original dataset details the information of burials of parishioners taken by clerks of St James’s Burial Grounds between 1790-1853. The original records are held by the City of Westminster Archives Centre (Ref 494/324–343). Microfilm copies of the records were digitised to enable the transcription project. The data was created by volunteers viewing the digitised images of the microfilm copies of the registers.

The data details the Names, dates of burial, location of burial, age at death, address, and evidence of annotations on pages.

The digital records of this project are two tables generated aggregating the data digitised by the volunteers, each page of the burial register was digitised at least twice:

  • The “aggregated table” shows the reviewed data from the different transcriptions for each record.
  • The “aggregated table variable” shows all the data transcribed per record. Allowing the refinement of queries when calligraphy or problematic images induced typos in the transcription.

This archive uses data generated via the Zooniverse.org platform, development of which is funded by generous support, including a Global Impact Award from Google, and by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
