Archaeological Research Services Ltd was commissioned by the Parochial Church Council of All Saints Church, Elton to undertake an archaeological watching brief on land at All Saints Church, Elton, Derbyshire, DE4 3BW. The works, which took place between 18th-26th February 2019 form part of the planning conditions for the construction of a disabled toilet inside the church tower and associated drainage in the churchyard.
The watching brief aimed to record the nature, extent and date of any surviving archaeological remains associated with the church and church yard and past secular activities on the site.
The excavation of the drainage trenches in 2019 revealed a sandstone foundation, possibly for a plinth, and part of a sandstone wall. The wall may relate to the wall discovered in 2007 (OASIS ID: archaeol5-22550), however this cannot be determined with certainty.
