A conference at the British Museum jointly organised by the Societies for Medieval & Post-Medieval Archaeology. The conference will challenge the traditional divide of medieval and post-medieval archaeology, and will evaluate the contribution of archaeology to the question of continuity and change in both public and private life in England over the 15th and 16th centuries. European perspectives on the late medieval to early modern transition will be included, and the conference will range over a broad spectrum of society, from royal palace and country house to the monastery, castle, urban merchant house and rural dwelling.
