Type 22 pillbox of a variant form. The pillbox is now in the garden of a Victorian-period house, but in 1940 this was railway land. The pillbox constructors had to build a base just below the level of the roadway of the bridge whilst allowing access from ground level some 20 feet lower. A wooden stepladder to reach the 'upper storey' entrance was set into the concrete base which stands partly on banked earth at road level and partly on concrete pillars. Adjacent to the rising road which peaks as it spans the two rail routes, the position needed embrasures to give a field of fire as wide as possible. The pillbox's condition is very good, with internal shuttering of brick and external reinforced concrete finish. It has an internal 'Y'-shaped anti-ricochet wall.
