Google Earth zipped KML file

The Defence of Britain dataset can be interrogated using Google Earth as an interface. Download the KMZ file below and open it in Google Earth to see the entire Defence of Britain dataset in its spatial locations. This KMZ file was compiled by Steven Thompson.

In case of any doubt over the positioning of points, please consult the original database (below). The Defence of Britain database has been made available to local HERs, SMRs and Welsh Archaeological Trusts, who should be your first point of contact in case you would like to suggest any amendments to the data.

Defence of Britain Project Anti-Invasion Database (2002)

These files are the constiuent files of the original Defence of Britain Project Anti-Invasion database, prior to any revisions and improvements made during the Defence Areas Project. They are made available here for continuity of reference from the HLF-funded project. We recommend that you use the online search interface to access the more accurate information held in the current database.

The files available are pipe-delimited text files, exported from the original Microsoft Access database. The SQL queries from that database are also made available as text files. Some data has been removed from the dataset for privacy reasons - where this has occured "Private data" appears in its place.
