Pillbox of a variant form of a type 26. It has been built to a second storey level. It is possible that it served as part of the defences of Croydon Airfield, but more likely it was protecting a 'vulnerable point' - i.e. that of the factory to which it is still attached which during the war was making paper tubes for shells and cartridges. Its external condition appears excellent, having apparently been repointed in recent years and painted white. In 1988 oblique aerial photographs show it unpainted. The factory building to which the pillbox is attached is a London Borough of Croydon locally listed 1930s commercial building, of which it is a fine example. It is not known if the protection extends to the pillbox.
