Pickett Hamilton counterbalance fort. Made of pre-cast concrete and situated below ground, although it is still possible to raise it when an hydraulic pump is operated. The ram lifts the roof. A lid in the roof enables the operator to get to a ladder on the wall to climb down into the interior. There is enough room for two people. Three embrasures. There are three Pickett Hamiltons at Silloth, the other two being flooded. This one could be renovated.
