Type 24 pillbox at S end of bridge over a Mersey inlet.
(Source: Field Visit 1999/05/10)
Variant on a type 24 pillbox situated on the E side of the road at the S end of the bridge. The pillbox faces S, with doorway on its NE side. Rifle embrasure to left of doorway, with a larger stepped LMG embrasure to the right. Both these embrasures are open. The embrasure in the W face is blocked, and the one in the SW face has been blocked but is now open. The other embrasures cannot be seen as a thick hedge is now growing against this side of the pillbox. Concrete-faced: the concrete is well matrixed with stone. Interior access possible. There is surprising little vandal damage despite the position of the pillbox in an urban environment at a point where there is considerably deriliction on the under side of the bridge.
