Type 28 pillbox, which may be modified type 26 with thick walls. Mounting bolts at main embrasure. Only the main embrasure at the front and no internal wall. Doorway faces S. Brick external shuttering; concrete roof and embrasure surrounds.

Documentary source lists this as an anti-tank gun emplacement (job no. 97), 95% completed at 11.8.40, but with a 6pdr. gun pedestal to be fixed. Cassini ref. 132932.

Type 28 anti-tank gun emplacement. Brick shuttered. Faces N towards bridge. Large stepped embrasure, and two small LMG or rifle embrasures facing W and E. Holdfast inside. Roof vent. Some exterior iron fittings [ for camouflage?].

Eastern Command: Corps and Command Stop Lines - One of three Eastern Command Corps stop lines, this one running from the River Colne in Essex via Wakes Colne and Bures, along the River Stour to Sudbury and Long Melford, and thence to Bury St. Edmunds and the River Lark at Mildenhall. Its final stretch (known now as the Command Line) was via Littleport along the line of the River Great Ouse to King's Lynn. |
