Excavations at Bartholomew Street West in 1974 revealed that the site was terraced to accommodate a timber building in the late second century. Domestic occupation had ceased by the late third century when a large ditch was dug across the site. A kiln producing flagons and mortaria of VITANVS was the earliest feature.
