Introduction

Excavations at Exe Street, Exeter 1985-86 (Exeter archive site 83)

Excavation took place at the corner of Exe Street and Lower North Street in 1985-86 in advance of building construction on a site c1000 square metres in area. Roman features found include first-century cremations, second-century quarry pits and a small timber building. Medieval ditches and possible street metalling were also found as well as a 14th-century pit.
