Introduction

In the late 1980s, building was taking place on several sites close to the river, mostly for housing developments. One of these sites was Haven Banks and excavation and documentary research regarding the site led to the identification of a large artificial channel. The channel was probably built to divert water from the river so as to facilitate the construction of a new deep-water approach channel and wharf at Exeter Quay in 1698-1701.

No files relating to this site have been deposited with the ADS, however the site is mentioned in an external reference detailed on the 'Metadata' page.
