Overview

Exeter Archaeology Archive Project

This dataset consists of the Exeter Archaeology Archive Project general (ie not site specific) information including the project history, Exeter Archaeology annual reports, committee reports and reports on the city walls and Roman fortress. these are available via the ‘Downloads’ page. on the menu to the left. This data forms part of a project to disseminate the consoldiated archive derived from excavations carried out in Exeter by Exeter Archaeology.

The collection comprises information from the 63 principal sites investigated between 1970 and 1990. The datasets for the 63 sites are available from individual project pages accessed via the links in the 'Site List' on the menu to the left.

The archive associated with the the project in general consists of the following files:

  • Reports
    • There are 85 documents available, with further site-specific reports available from the individual site pages. The reports section includes 27 Exeter Archaeology Advisory Committee Reports, and four black and white photo indexes. In addition, there is an introduction to the series of Exeter Archaeology reports related to the City Wall by Stuart Blaylock (2014), with 13 reports on the City Wall, as well as an introduction to Exeter Archaeology reports on excavations in and around the Legionary Fortress at Exeter, 1971-1986 by Paul Bidwell (2014) and the 2005 Introduction to the Roman Legionary Fortress at Exeter by John Allan. The Exeter Archaeology 'Green Reports' mentioned in the Roman Fortress Introduction, have been made available online via the site-specific pages, which can be found via the Site List or the Interactive Map pages in the left-hand menu. Further information can also be found in the associated publications by following the links from the 'Metadata' page.
  • Images
    • There are 100 images available comprising 45 City Wall drawings, 14 general reconstruction drawings, 37 reconstruction drawings relating to the Roman Fortress and 4 other image files relating to sites outside of the 37-99 site code range covered by the site specific pages.
