This collection contains the images, and report detailing the recording to ‘Historic England Level 3’ of the Grade II Listed Polanguy Farmhouse.
The record was made prior to the restoration of the building, from its current derelict state, to domestic re-use, per condition 3 on Cornwall Council planning consent PA19/06666.
The southern range of the building contains a number of reused 17th century architectural fragments, including a blocked two light stone mullion window, stair turret and axial chimney in their original positions. Reused fragments have been identified as being taken from two further stone mullion windows, and from moulded door and fireplace jambs. This evidence, and historic references, suggest it was a building of some status.
Historical research demonstrates that this enlarged and modernised house was occupied by likely comparatively wealthy tenant farmers, their households containing domestic servants. The 19th century building should be seen in the context of the contemporary and enlarged ‘improved’ regular courtyard farmstead of the mid-19th century to its north.
