Quarries

General Comments:

A quarry extracting Cadeby Stone can be seen a little to the south of Cadeby at Cadeby Cliff during the 19th century (first edition of the one-inch O.S. map for Doncaster and Wakefield) it was most probably used locally for building stone. By the late 19th century a large quarry had been opened to the south-east of Cadeby originally to extract dolomite for the glass industry but during the 20th century for lower grade purposes, generally road aggregate (Hart 1988: 9).

Known Quarries: Cadeby Quarry, South Yorkshire.
