General Colour Description: | There are two varieties, 'red' and 'white' which differ mainly in colour rather than composition or texture. The former is a pinkish-brown colour and the latter a cream/buff or pale yellow colour, which is yellowish white when quarried but tends to weather white on exposure (Ashurst and Dimes 1990: 71-73). |

Hand Specimen Description: | A sandy dolomitic limestone (occasionally with small ferruginous spots) which is current bedded. It is a medium grained, hard, granular sandstone which is well sorted with a rough feel. It consists of angular and subangular quartz grains cemented by dolomite and to a lesser extent by calcium carbonate and silica (Ashurst and Dimes 1990: 71-73). |
