The Isle of Man, often called 'the road racing capital of the world', also remains one of the most controversial as a consequence of the associated dangers, and particularly the number of fatalities. Whilst it is the intention of this archive to provide material for future research, it also provides access to monuments that are difficult to find, but particularly because many of them are located in dangerous places (two bike fans were killed whilst trying to view a monument at Quarry Bends).
This archive reflects a program of investigation into those memorials erected, often at the roadside, in the aftermath of these fatalities (Corkill & Moore 2012). It includes information on memorials raised to fans and officials. The archive consists of a database for both deaths and memorials, an image gallery of memorials, along with GIS shapefiles of the TT Course and layers showing the distribution of deaths and memorials.

Thanks to Des and Win Evans for their assistance and advice in locating the monuments along with useful information about the riders. Thanks also to Fran Caley for providing the image for the archive frontpage.
