Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Investigations were undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 2009--11 ahead of the construction of a windfarm at Wadlow Farm, West Wratting. The results indicated that the landscape was exploited for its flint during the Neolithic period and for its agricultural potential during the Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age. An isolated Anglo-Saxon feature was also found, comprising a sunken featured building containing an assemblage of loom weights. The later prehistoric field system had been previously identified by cropmark evidence and the fieldwork confirmed associated agricultural activity. Notably there is a paucity of known flint quarries in the area (partly due to the difficulty in their recognition), and the results provide insight into Neolithic flint extraction. | |||||||||||||
