Abstract:
SS 377010. The trapezoidal keep was probably added to the earthwork castle before 1174, and underwent four subsequent remodellings. The inner curtain wall, with at least one major round tower, is dated 1212-19, and the hall block and outer gatehouse were added in 14th century. Parallels are noted with Chepstow and Pembroke, in the same ownership. D F R
