Abstract:
Coins of both mints in this period bear some abbreviations of the name Hamtune, which has made their distinction a problem. Earlier they have all been attributed to Northampton, but the earliest coin, issued by Aethelstan (924-939), should more properly be attributed to Southampton. Those issues of Eadwig and Edgar are attributed to one or two other mints. The mint of the abbot of Peterborough is also discussed. Numis Lit
