Abstract:
Two decades after Dunning's pioneering map of N Sea trade routes it is possible to see greater complexities in the pattern, eg re-export and coastal working, cabotage, etc. As in the Bronze Age, water transport was cheapest. Problems of identification, dating, and quantification of pottery are considered in turn. Reference collections are being set up in places beyond and in London, and the MPRG has issued guidelines for publication and is compiling a glossary. The long-term aim must be an international corpus.
